The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - REAL LIFE -

1 I was named after Leonardo da Vinci. My father, who’s ItalianAmerican, and mother, a German-American, went to Italy on honeymoon, and my mum felt me kicking when she was looking at a Leonardo painting, so that’s what they called me. But I also got Wilhelm as a good German middle name. 2 If I hadn’t been an actor I’d have been a biologist or worked with animals. That was my interest when I was little, and if I’d grown up somewhere other than LA, that’s what I’d have done. I’m happy with my life now, but I’d have felt fulfilled working with animals. 3 The only time I’ve ever had nightmares was when I was trying to quit cigarettes and wearing a nicotine patch. The stuff I dreamt was just blood-curdling. 4 My first acting ‘job’ was getting out of maths homework as a kid. The subject was just horrible for me, and I used my acting and improvisation skills to make up excuses for not doing it. 5 The quality I most admire in my mother is her blunt honesty. She is incapable of any dishonesty or of any hypocrisy. I try hard to be as honest as her when dealing with people close to me. But I’m not always as blunt with strangers because you never know what their reaction might be.
