What you need to know about...

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - BODY & SOUL -

Hands and feet, legs and arms — there isn’t any part of your body that won’t look better when cared for with some moisturiser. You needn’t designate a specific time of day to apply some lotion or treatment, but get into the habit of keeping a tube of hand cream by the sink, or foot cream by your bed, and work these into your daily routine. Always apply lotion or body butter after showering; that is a must. Don’t let cold or hot weather cause hard skin on your hands — keep the skin protected and nourished with regular applications of hand cream, and massage it into the cuticles to keep them soft and healthy. Before bed, rub some body lotion into your elbows and knees, and finish with foot cream. Your skin will be transformed in a matter of days! And moisturiser needn’t cost the earth: for the body, look for products rich in coconut oil or cocoa butter — highly nourishing, yet not so pricey!

There’s not much left out there that hasn’t been investigated for its antiageing properties. Remember the furore over snake venom, the wrinkle buster that compared favourably to anti-wrinkle injections? Next up was bee mucus from China. And now the latest is allantoin derived from purified snail slime. This magical liquid is what the snail uses to protect its skin; for us, it is moisturising and soothing on burns and dry skin. Sadly, it has yet to reach our shores because it has a short shelf life and a long way to travel from where it is produced in China!
