MOIS­TUR­IS­ING WISELY

Hands and feet, legs and arms — there isn’t any part of your body that won’t look bet­ter when cared for with some mois­turiser. You needn’t des­ig­nate a spe­cific time of day to ap­ply some lo­tion or treat­ment, but get into the habit of keep­ing a tube of hand cream by the sink, or foot cream by your bed, and work these into your daily rou­tine. Al­ways ap­ply lo­tion or body but­ter af­ter show­er­ing; that is a must. Don’t let cold or hot weather cause hard skin on your hands — keep the skin pro­tected and nour­ished with reg­u­lar ap­pli­ca­tions of hand cream, and mas­sage it into the cu­ti­cles to keep them soft and healthy. Be­fore bed, rub some body lo­tion into your el­bows and knees, and fin­ish with foot cream. Your skin will be trans­formed in a mat­ter of days! And mois­turiser needn’t cost the earth: for the body, look for prod­ucts rich in co­conut oil or co­coa but­ter — highly nour­ish­ing, yet not so pricey!

SNAIL OIL!

There’s not much left out there that hasn’t been in­ves­ti­gated for its an­ti­age­ing prop­er­ties. Re­mem­ber the furore over snake venom, the wrinkle buster that com­pared favourably to anti-wrinkle in­jec­tions? Next up was bee mu­cus from China. And now the lat­est is al­lan­toin de­rived from pu­ri­fied snail slime. This mag­i­cal liq­uid is what the snail uses to pro­tect its skin; for us, it is mois­tur­is­ing and sooth­ing on burns and dry skin. Sadly, it has yet to reach our shores be­cause it has a short shelf life and a long way to travel from where it is pro­duced in China!

MAKE-UP MADE EASY

For sum­mer hol­i­days, make sure you have some sim­ple-to-use crayon colours in your beauty bag. The new­est eye make-up crayon sticks are just per­fect for wear­ing on sunny days.
