This week the London Olympics are approaching their dramatic climax, with final after hard-fought final. Today’s action gets underway with the Women’s Marathon which features three Irish competitors, Linda Byrne, Ava Hutchinson and Caitriona Jennings. Also of Irish interest is the Men’s Shooting which includes Longford man Derek Burnett in the Trap, and the Sailing where Peter O’Leary and David Burrows will hopefully be on the water again competing in the Star medal race. The highlight today, however, is undoubtedly the Men’s 100m Final (Sunday, RTÉ Two/ BBC1, 9.50pm) – with a ferociously competitive field, including American Justin Gatlin and Jamaican rivals Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake (above), gunning for the title. An explosive start to a great week’s Olympics action.
