This week the Lon­don Olympics are ap­proach­ing their dra­matic cli­max, with fi­nal af­ter hard-fought fi­nal. To­day’s ac­tion gets un­der­way with the Women’s Marathon which fea­tures three Ir­ish com­peti­tors, Linda Byrne, Ava Hutchin­son and Caitri­ona Jen­nings. Also of Ir­ish in­ter­est is the Men’s Shoot­ing which in­cludes Long­ford man Derek Bur­nett in the Trap, and the Sail­ing where Peter O’Leary and David Bur­rows will hope­fully be on the wa­ter again com­pet­ing in the Star medal race. The high­light to­day, how­ever, is un­doubt­edly the Men’s 100m Fi­nal (Sun­day, RTÉ Two/ BBC1, 9.50pm) – with a fe­ro­ciously com­pet­i­tive field, in­clud­ing Amer­i­can Justin Gatlin and Ja­maican ri­vals Usain Bolt and Yo­han Blake (above), gun­ning for the ti­tle. An ex­plo­sive start to a great week’s Olympics ac­tion.
