The Last Weekend

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - FOOD & DRINK - Nigel Andrew

This suspenseful three-parter, adapted from a novel by Blake Morrison, gets off to a gripping start as two couples get together one hot, sultry weekend at a rented country house. Since they were university friends, Ollie’s (Rupert Penry-Jones, left) and Ian’s (Shaun Evans) paths have diverged, and they now live very different lives in different social classes. However, they remain locked in a fiercely competitive relationship, coloured by Ian’s past relationship with Ollie’s partner Daisy (Irish actress Genevieve O’Reilly, right, with Claire Keelan as Ian’s partner Em, centre). As the story of the weekend unfolds – told to camera by Ian – revelation follows revelation, and the picture keeps changing. But can we trust Ian? Sunday, 9pm, UTV.
