Good Cop

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - YOUR TV WEEK - Nigel Andrew

This superior, four-part police drama gets off to a gripping start. Warren Brown (above) plays beat cop PC John Rocksavage (known as Sav), for whom an ordinary day turns suddenly and dramatically into one in which the whole course of his life will change. It begins with a chance encounter on the beach with his ex-girlfriend (who has clearly moved on) and their daughter. Then, eating in a diner with his colleague Andy, Sav intervenes to stop a gang of men, led by the deeply unpleasant Finch (Stephen Graham), molesting a waitress. The consequences of this action will be terrible indeed… Meanwhile, there’s enough going on in the background of the story – including the arrival of new WPC Amanda Morgan (Kerrie Hayes, above) – to ensure that the plot will thicken nicely. Thursday, 9pm, BBC1.
