BEAUTY BULLETIN

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - BODY & SOUL -

News leaked in the summer that Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld was to create a limited-edition collection with Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura. Beauty buffs have long been aware of the cult status of Uemura’s eyelash curler and cleansing oil, never mind their highly pigmented shadows. Word is that Karl uses the eye shadows while sketching his fashion designs and from that the collaboration was born. The ‘face’ of the collection is Mon Shu, a ‘Pulp Fiction Uma Thurman’-meets-manga graphic that graces all of the packaging. So what will be the best investment? Most definitely Karl’s reworked Eyelash Curl & Karl, the famed curler with red trim and charm. Mon Shu Girl nail stickers will be snapped up too. Exclusively at Brown Thomas, Dublin, from this month. She had the most imitated haircut of the 1990s with the ‘Rachel’ and it doesn’t seem as though Jennifer Aniston has had a bad hair day since. So it is interesting to hear that she has not only added her name as a celebrity endorsement to a small high-end American hair-care brand, Living Proof, but she is also investing in the company. The brand’s science star is Dr Robert Langer, a professor at MIT and prolific inventor. To date he has identified two molecules that are effective at blocking moisture, one of the main causes of frizzy hair. The campaign featuring Jennifer kicks off next year so watch out for it! For a gorgeous night out, join me at the Theatre of Beauty evening at Harvey Nichols, Dundrum, from 6-9pm on November 15 — the first official launch event for Look Good Feel Better Ireland. All proceeds raised on the night go to help the charity run their skin-care and makeup workshops for women going through cancer treatment. There will be visiting make-up artists, demos, a drinks reception and great goodie bags. Tickets cost €15, or €25 for a VIP pass, and a select group of beauty editors (including yours truly!) will be on hand to give impartial advice. L’Occitane’s limited-edition shea butter hand creams are hugely popular. When a new collection is released, one cream sells every five seconds somewhere in the world. This season, there are three varieties: Date Bouquet, Mango Flower and Rose Petals — beautiful scents and powerful moisture from the 20 per cent shea butter formulation, which nourishes and softens rough skin. Darphin is a high-end luxury brand with a reputation for cutting-edge skin-care technology combined with the benefits of plant extracts and superior essential oils. This Satin Oil, containing the powerful antioxidant Red Ginger essential oil, is a wonderful winter product that leaves the skin thoroughly nourished and soft without feeling oily or greasy. Jasmine adds a subtle lingering scent.
