The Job Lot

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - YOUR TV WEEK -

The last thing you’d expect to find on a Monday night – or, come to that, any other night – would surely be a double bill of cracking comedies on UTV. But this Monday, the brilliant Vicious (see feature, page 10) is followed by this equally brilliant ensemble comedy set in a Jobcentre in England, focusing on the people who work there and the people who don’t work there, or anywhere else. Miranda co-star Sarah Hadland (second from left) is the chirpy, struggling manager; Russell Tovey (far left) is the graduate at the end of his tether; and Jo Enright (third from right) is the difficult, unsackable one. Right from the start, the characters slot into place and the comedy – quiet and subtle, with no laughter track – purrs along. This deserves to be a big hit. Monday, UTV, 9.30pm. Nigel Andrew
