BEAUTY BULLETIN

Creating fragrance begins with a concept, a vision that will hopefully lead to a beautiful scent. Usually, the imaginings of a new fragrance begin in a boardroom but not so with highend niche fragrance range Olfactive Studio. The brand’s concept is simple: from a photograph, a perfume is created, with founder Céline Verleure using some of the best photographers and perfumers in the business. The brand emerged from a Facebook page for perfume lovers — ‘Blog for the fragrance that doesn’t (yet) exist!’ — where fans could see and comment on every stage of the fragrances’ development, making them ambassadors of the scents released. There are five fragrances and each has an interesting back story. Read more on olfactivestudio.com. If a supplement designed to get rid of grey hair was launched, would you take it? As far-fetched as it might sound, we could be seeing such tablets sooner than you think! Much research is being focused on the action of ‘catalase’ on hair colour. A natural enzyme, catalase counteracts the effects of hydrogen peroxide in the body. As catalase levels reduce with age, the hydrogen peroxide levels increase, allowing it to ‘bleach’ the hair from the inside out, so replacing the catalase could spell the end of grey hair, some think. Already one US company has created a supplement containing the enzyme from plant extracts. Does it work? Reviews are mixed so far, but watch this space! Yves Saint Laurent was one of the first beauty brands to inject pigment into mascara formulas, offering colourful shades such as blue, purple and green. This month, YSL launches a must-have mascara: Volume Effect Faux Cils Babydoll Mascara (€32), which offers lashes with maximum volume, thickness and full-on drama. It’s available in black, naturally enough, but, in classic YSL style, it also comes in brown, blue and purple! The new Collection de Grasse comprises four beautiful fragrances inspired by the Provençal town known as the world’s capital of perfume. So synonymous is this beauty brand with Provence that it took its name from the language of the region, Occitan. The new scents, three for women and this unisex one, are uplifting and fresh, perfect to welcome the warmer summer months. Gorgeous packaging too!

Uneven skin tone and dark spots can become problems as we age. This BB cream by Kiehl’s contains vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that improves clarity and decreases melanin production so spots fade and tone evens up over time. Also included are minerals for natural coverage, moisturisers and SPF 50 for superior sun protection. Cork-based brand Pixy has a number of great beauty buys at pocket-friendly prices. This jasmine-scented gem is light and mousse-like, yet offers the deep moisture benefits of a butter, with nourishing coconut and sweet almond oils. Mica provides a natural shimmer. A summer must-have!
