The story behind the film
The original idea for Before Sunrise was inspired by a meeting between writer director Richard Linklater and a woman called Amy Lehrhaupt in Philadelphia in 1989. After their night together, Richard and Amy tried to maintain a longdistance relationship, but it fizzled out and they lost touch. Tragically, Amy never got to see the film she helped to inspire, as she died in a motorcycle accident a few months before the film came out. Linklater only found out about her death three years ago, and dedicated Before Midnight to her.
