In order to depict the memorable sequence in which Jim discovers that London is empty, the crew sealed off famous locations – such as Oxford Street and Westminister Bridge (above) – around the city for minutes at a time. The crew filmed at the quietest times possible in order to minimise disruption to London’s commuters. For the scene in which Jim walks past an overturned double-decker bus, the crew had to place, shoot and remove the vehicle, all within 20 minutes.
