SPRUCE UP STAINS

The salts in your perspiration mixed with aluminium compounds in deodorant builds over time and causes stains in the armpits of your shirts or dresses that are especially noticeable on lighter coloured clothes. And they can smell pretty bad, too. What to do? To protect your current wardrobe choose a deodorant that contains aluminium far down the ingredient list, less aluminium equals less staining. To rejuvenate older clothes spritz the area with a mix of one part water, one part white vinegar, leave for 30 minutes and machine wash as normal. For clothes that are dryclean only, it’s time to go shopping!

CHANEL LATEST

Chanel’s new fragrances, No.5 Eau Premiere for her and Allure Sport Eau Extreme for him hit counters this month. This coming Saturday also sees the arrival of the summer makeup collection and it’s filled with great colour options. For eyes there are sun-kissed and bronze cream shadows (€30) and coloured mascaras in purple and orange (€31). A cream blush adds a touch of tan to the face, (€34.50) and for lips and nails we are spoiled with five shades in each, and all pretty pops of colour in pink, orange and lilac (Gloss/€27, Polish/€23). Chanel fans take note, a lot of the collection is limited edition so get your favourites soon.

PERFECT PEDICURE...

Need to pick a pedicure shade for summer or a holiday? Painted toe nails are a must with open-toed sandals and it’s the perfect opportunity to experiment with colour even if you wouldn’t with your fingernails. Hot for this month are bright and fun shades like Essie Style Hunter, a cool crisp sophisticated crimson, €9.99. Nails Inc Downtown is a hot, neon pink with a gel-like finish, €16.80, while Lancome’s Bright Ribbons 504, €18.50 is a vibrant lilac. Top of my own shopping list is YSL Bleu Cyclades 51, a striking metallic navy that looks equally good on hands and feet, €24. All available nationwide. As an effective botanical hair care range, French brand Phytoplage is hard to beat; 95%-99% active ingredients and minimal water, so a little goes a long way. This Sun Veil is a perfect after-sun hair restorer for all the family on holiday. It detangles, aids damage repair and softens hair dehydrated by sea salt and chlorine. The full sun care range includes protective products, too.

La Roche Posay has colour-coded some products suitable for face and body: Comfort (Blue) is for normal to dry skin, UltraLight (Yellow) is for all skin types, and Anti-Shine for combination or oily skin is Green. The Ultra-Light Fluid also comes in a tint for colour with protection.

This new sun range from NUXE might be compact with just three SPF options (10, 20 and 30) and this After-sun Milk, but fans of the brand will recognise the famed Prodigieuse fragrance used by NUXE. The scent is so popular that NUXE recently released it as a stand-alone perfume and it’s now No.1 in France. Here it’s blended with coconut and sunflower oils for maximum moisture, and carob seed powder to prolong your tan.

PHYTOPLAGE PROTECTIVE SUN VEIL €16.90, Space NK; Kazumi.

LA ROCHE POSAY ANTHELIOS XL ULTRA-LIGHT FLUID 50+ €19.50,

NUXE REFRESHING AFTER-SUN MILK €19, pharmacies nationwide.
