ANGRY BIRDS GO!
What it does Puts the birds in crazy karts for wacky races.
Why we love it Over 2 billion copies of Angry Birds have been downloaded, which is more than one copy for every single smartphone user in the world. In this spin-off of the original game, our furious feathered friends whizz around a series of zany racetracks in overpowered go-karts. If the racing doesn’t hook you, the stunning graphics and characterful birds certainly will. Warning: do not start playing if you have work to do.
What it does Involves you in all-out war at the seaside.
Why we love it You do literally ‘ fight them on the beaches’ in this combat strategy game from the makers of the mega-hit game Clash Of Clans. You and your expeditionary force battle across an archipelago of beautiful islands to free their enslaved people from the evil Blackguard. The archipelago is also full of treasure for you to find. Playable in either single or multiplayer formats, this is perfect summer holiday fare.
What it does Helps you improve youryo health and fitness.
Why we love it Lifesum is a personal tracker app that provides accurate calorie counts for the food you eat and energy you exert during exercise, plans health and fitness programmes, and monitors your progress. It comes from Stockholm (all the designers look infuriatingly perfect) and has that cool, elegant Scandinavian feel. To access all the app’s features, you pay a subscription of €6 a month or €30 a year.
SLEEP TALK RECORDER
Cost Free/89c. What it does Captures all the interesting nighttime noises you make!
Why we love it Sleep Talk Recorder has been the No 1 paid-for app on the iTunes store (it’s free for Android devices), mostly because it’s fun, recording anything you or your partner say in your sleep and indeed any noises you make – with often hilarious results. The snores it records can provide proof to spouses who deny they do it but also, more seriously, can help detect the condition of sleep apnoea.
What it does Wakes you up and sets you up for the day ahead.
Why we love it This app offers (almost) everything you need as you go through your morning routine: an alarm, weather forecasts, traffic reports, unread emails and upcoming appointments. A similar app for iPhone/iPad users, called Morning – Weather, To-Do, News And More (€ 3.59), adds the latest news and share prices to the mix. Neither app, sadly, makes that crucial first cup of tea.
What it does Gives your ddevicei ththe ultimate golf brain.
Why we love it Hole 19 does everything for golfers except hit the ball. It gives you an aerial view of each hole when you’re out on the course, tells you precisely how far every shot you’ve struck has gone, calculates the distance to the hole, tracks all your scores and provides data to help you improve your game. More than 22,000 courses around the world have been mapped, and yours can be added if it isn’t already available.
