The first aid kit SUNSHINE SOLUTIONS
Going to or coming home from holidays? We will all experience some beauty slip-up abroad that perhaps we might have avoided. So what are the most common beauty blunders, and how best can we prevent or repair the damage done? : Your most expensive beauty accessory, especially if you’re a blonde, so why would you allow it to become parched and faded on holiday?
If you are going somewhere hot and sunny, pack a UV protection product to protect hair lengths and colour. L’Oréal Professional Série Expert Advanced Protection Spray is ideal, €16.80 in salons.
Have you come home with worries that birds might try to nest in your straw-like bleached barnet? An intensive masque is necessary, try ColorLast Masque from Matrix Biolage, €12.75. Continue to use routinely until hair health improves.
Chances are when you’re abroad you will be exposed to direct sunshine for longer so please don’t get burned. Bring, and use, high factor sunscreens and reapply every two to three hours. If you do get burned, treat the skin with locally bought aloe vera gel, and keep the skin protected from the sun for the rest of the holiday. If you are still red when you arrive home you could pick up some gel in any health store (e.g. Holland & Barrett, €8.49 for 200mls), or try a nourishing after-sun product like Nuxe Refreshing AfterSun Milk, €19.
The Birkenstock might be back this season, but any previously unworn sandals have the potential to rub and cause painful blisters. Yes, ads for smoothing feet are everywhere, but sometimes a little hard skin can protect against chafing so don’t be too zealous with your pedicure device. Put a pack of Scholl’s Corn Plasters (€5.99 for six) or Compeed’s Blister Mix Pack (€ 7.79 for five) into your case for any foot emergencies. If your feet need more TLC, a soothing layer of foot cream, a pair of soft socks and a little time will heal them nicely.
Chipped, dull and yellowed – hardly what you want poolside. To prevent chipping you need two colour coats and a topcoat. Keep high shine with a super glossy topcoat. For zero yellowing you need a, yes, you guessed it, a basecoat – but one with UV protectors. Top of the class for all three tasks is Jessica Brilliance High Gloss, it’s the summer mani must-have. Available online and in stores nationwide, €23.50, www.frenchbeautyroom.com.
