Ev­ery as­pect of the be­hav­iour of ev­ery an­i­mal on Earth is de­signed to meet a par­tic­u­lar chal­lenge; and ev­ery as­pect of their phys­i­ol­ogy has evolved to im­prove the chances of sur­vival against the odds. In this ma­jor new se­ries, Sir David At­ten­bor­ough ex­plores the many and var­ied ways in which all man­ner of an­i­mals, from meerkats [above] to hump­back whales, ne­go­ti­ate the jour­ney through life – their ‘drive and in­ven­tive­ness’ he says, is ‘breathtaking’.
