The fi­nal part of Sam Wil­lis’s (left) his­tory opens on the War Of The Roses in 1464, at Bam­burgh Cas­tle – the first Bri­tish cas­tle taken by can­non fire. The Tu­dors em­braced can­non as a de­fen­sive mea­sure, and Henry VIII built 20 coastal forts in just two years.
