Bring some zen to your morning make-up routine with three versatile wonder products

Very few women have much time in the morning to devote to beauty – a slick of lip balm might just about get a look-in if we’re honest. But there are three make-up products that can make the difference between barely there and barefaced if you open your mind to the possibility of using them for purposes other than what they are designed for.

The first of these product gems is liquid concealer. Yes, perfect for disguising dark circles, blemishes and redness, but mixed with a couple of drops of moisturiser and you have created a lightweight foundation or BB cream you can use across the face. A dot under the brows gives a lifted effect, a little extra along the nose to mouth lines makes the face look fresher and younger. The one to try is Artdeco’s Anti-Ageing Liquid Concealer, €21.60 Debenhams nationwide.

Secondly, reach for the taupe brow pencil. Most fair-haired women will rely on a brow pencil to define sparse brows, but this shade is considered somewhat universal for most brow colours unless the hair is very black.

After using on the brows, take the pencil and apply a light eye line or shadow and smudge if desired. If the shade is a natural taupe you should be able to apply it as lip line too, as long as you fully blend. Improved formulations in brow pencils today means they have better waxes and are much more pliable and soft – see NYX Automatic Eye Brow Pencil, €5.99, or Elizabeth Arden’s Brow Pencil, €22, available in stores nationwide.

You can finish the eyes with mascara, but if time is pressing a quick curl opens up the eyes and lashes.

The final tool is lip balm. Creamy lip balm can be used for more than just lip colour. On the cheeks it doubles as blusher and lifts a pale winter pallor, on the eyes a light touch offers some warming colour. Choose the formula carefully, anything shiny or glossy doesn’t work for this type of multi-use colour. Look for a flat, matte alternative like Revlon’s Color Burst Matte Lip Balm, €10.99. This great chubby lip balm is in pencil form, which makes it easier to apply on the eyes, cheeks and lips. The Elusive and Unapologetic shades are two great rosy colour for any skin tone.

And there you have it – make-up on the run with just three simple products. Try them and transform your morning routine.
