Mr Selfridge

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - YOUR TV WEEK -

With such a glamorous and eventful life and career, the retail magnate Harry Gordon Selfridge makes an ideal subject for television. And so, we return to London’s Oxford Street for the third ten-part series of the drama revolving around the charismatic founder of what remains one of the most famous department stores in the world. This first episode picks up events in 1918, some months after the tragic death of his wife Rose, and Harry Selfridge (Jeremy Piven) has a welcome distraction when his eldest daughter, Rosalie (Kara Tointon), marries Russian aviator Serge de Bolotoff (Leon Ockenden), eldest son of the aristocratic Princess Marie Wiasemsky (Zoë Wanamaker). But, before long, what initially seemed a good match soon starts to give the businessman cause for concern. Tonight, 9pm, UTV.

We do: The new series opens with bride and groom Rosalie Selfridge and Serge de Bolotoff (played by Kara Tointon and Leon Ockenden)
