EASTENDERS

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - YOUR MOVIE PLANNER -

It’s Shabnam’s birthday and she hopes the day will bring good news: a promotion at the Minute Mart. Given she deliberately damages stock, is rude to customers and covered up for Denise’s stealing, she probably shouldn’t hold her breath. Sure enough, instead of being promoted she’s made redundant, but the upside is she ends up seeking solace in the arms of the gorgeous Kush.

Her dalliance with Kush reawakens old memories, and by the end of the week Shabnam has confessed a terrible, dark secret to Stacey. A soap character with a dark secret? Get away!

Ian forges ahead with elaborate plans for his rushed wedding to Jane, including a request that all his groomsmen wear kilts in ‘the Beale tartan’. Ian in a kilt? Please don’t do that to us.

Max seems to have a whisky glass superglued to his hands at the moment, and it’ll be staying firmly put for Emma’s funeral. Her family don’t want him there and Carol doesn’t understand him, sending Max into another drunken meltdown.

The investigation into Linda’s rape continues, with Stacey giving her statement to police. As the news spreads, tensions are running high in the Carter household, so they do what they always do in times of trouble... throw a karaoke night at the Queen Vic. By my reckoning every karaoke night the Carters have ever staged has ended in disaster, and this one is no different.

Angry he’s the subject of so much gossip, Dean decides to gatecrash proceedings (above) and, well, let’s just say he doesn’t get to belt out any tunes. Decco can’t help feeling put out when he learns Kerri-Ann has another date lined up with Garda Maguire, even though he has his own date lined up with Haley (below right, played by Rebecca Grimes). When both of the couples end up in Vino’s for their dates – not a lot of choice in Carrigstown – Kerri-Ann is flustered to realise she has a pang of jealousy when Haley kisses Decco.

Renée feels her daughter needs to know the truth about Christy’s death so she tells Farrah that Max was with Christy when he died. The revelation leaves Farrah distraught. Max is furious with Renée and, ever the gentleman, threatens to cut Renée out of their lives for good. Renée begins to worry that she did the wrong thing. The situation goes from bad to worse when Seán notices Farrah’s upset and Renée expl explains what has happened. Seán takes hi himself off to the guards and it’s downhi hill from there for Max.

There’s a new locum doctor in Carrig rigstown, Jim Cawley, who could do w with brushing up on his workplace etiqu quette. He leaves Ama struggling to ad adapt to his gruff.

Dolores tries to hide her shock when he her hair starts to fall out. In solidarity w with Dolores, Kerri-Ann goes on a m make-up free date with Frank. It doesn’t ha have the desired effect when he enquires if she is coming down with something.
