CLAUDIA CONNELL’S ultimate insight into the week’s soaps

The Irish Mail on Sunday - TV Week - - NEWS - Jaci Stephen is away

Hypocrites don’t come much bigger than the ones you meet in soaps. We’ve seen how Martin Fowler is struggling to forgive his sister Michelle for her fling with teenage student Preston in EastEnders. The very same Martin who ran over and killed Jamie Mitchell, a fact he seemed to have totally forgotten about until the other week.

And isn’t it strange how he wasn’t so bothered when his wife Stacey had a fling with his friend Kush and lied to him about baby Arthur’s paternity?

Coronation Street’s Gail McIntyre has barely been able to look Leanne Battersby in the eye since learning that Steve McDonald, and not her precious son Nick, is the father of baby Oliver. At least she didn’t marry a serial killer and introduce him to her children, eh Gail? Or have a fling with her mother’s conman lover.

But Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle is the worst. She’s not been off Robert Sugden’s case since he confessed to cheating on her son Aaron. It was a terrible thing to do, but not quite as bad as having an affair with your pregnant niece’s boyfriend.
