A ludicrous waste

The Irish Mail on Sunday - - COMMENT -

AS WE reveal today, burglary gangs are taking advantage of dark evenings and using the motorway network in the afternoon to steal from homes before the owners return from work. Against that backdrop, it is ludicrous that gardaí are still standing guard at the home of former taoiseach Liam Cosgrave, who died last month and who was predeceased by his wife last year.

The force has refused to comment, saying it is an operational issue. Fine, but it is an operational issue that should have been sorted the day after he died. That it was not is symptomatic, yet again, of a police force that has lost its way.

It is nothing short of farcical.
