Ex-HSE boss urges caution
HE ONCE described the Health Minister as a ‘frightened little boy’. But former HSE chief Tony O’Brien yesterday opted not to call for the resignation of Simon Harris from the Health portfolio in the row over the rising costs of the Children’s Hospital.
Instead, he told RTÉ’s Marian Finucane Show, we should learn from previous scandals, such as the CervicalCheck controversy which embroiled Mr O’Brien himself.
He argues that despite information emerging via the Oireachtas committee system, Ireland should hold out for the PwC report before calling for heads to roll.
He said: ‘We need to learn the lesson of the furore that surrounded the departure of Nóirín O’Sullivan, Frances Fitzgerald, myself… there was often more heat than light in the cauldron of places like the PAC.’
