‘Morn­ing Ire­land’ ramp­ing up busi­ness news cov­er­age

Ra­dio 1 is ex­tend­ing the busi­ness news cov­er­age on Morn­ing Ire­land from Mon­day with a new bul­letin af­ter the head­lines at 8.30am.

The ad­di­tional up­date will give the RTÉ news and cur­rent af­fairs pro­gramme the abil­ity to re­port on stock-mar­ket move­ments af­ter trad­ing be­gins.

The show, which airs from 7am to 9am, will con­tinue to in­clude a daily busi­ness fea­ture seg­ment at 7.50am.

RTÉ said its lis­tener re­search had in­di­cated there was de­mand for more busi­ness news, par­tic­u­larly cov­er­age of small busi­nesses and start-ups. As part of the changes, Ra­dio 1’s ear­lier busi­ness news bul­letins will also move from 6.20am to 6.30am dur­ing Ris­ing Time and from 7.10am to 7.30am dur­ing Morn­ing Ire­land.

Sports news, which typ­i­cally fol­lows the news head­lines at 8.30am, will now fol­low the busi­ness bul­letin.

Morn­ing Ire­land is the most lis­tened-to ra­dio pro­gramme in Ire­land with an au­di­ence of 436,000. From Oc­to­ber 30th, Six-One an­chor Bryan Dobson is set to join Morn­ing Ire­land, re­plac­ing the re­cently re­tired Cathal Mac Coille.
