It’s the most tasty collaboration of the week. Spanky Wilson (right) is the Philly-born soul-jazz belter, probably best known on the dancefloor for a raucous and much-remixed version of Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love. Will Holland’s Quantic Soul Orchestra are the torch-bearers when it comes to 21st century funk, a band of funk-soul brothers and sisters who really have mastered the chops it takes to put on a wild show. Put them together and you've got I’m Thankful, an album which combines Wilson’s pipes and the Orchestra’s big band grooves to often dazzling effect. New-school funkateer Holland really does know his onions and he has become one of the most impressive players in the game. Holland’s workouts with Sharon Jones, Mr Scruff, the Breakestra and Charlie Parker have all produced gems, so this hook-up with Wilson was always set to contain as much sparkle as the Christmas lights.
