We Can Create Mute It seems that every bedroom in Christendom harbours a frustrated muso who wants nothing more than to get his unique, downbeat electronic pop sound heard by the rest of the world. Northampton boffin James Chapman has spent countless hours moping around in his bedroom being depressed, so he’s certainly paid his emotional dues. The result is an album that floats somwhere between OMD’s architectural pop and Aphex Twin’s twisted electro, but never seems to settle on a solid tune or idea. It seldom engages emotionally with the world, preferring to stay safely behind a frosty glass shield. Producer Valgeir Sigurdsson and mixer Ken Thomas, who between them have worked with Björk and Sigur Rós, bring the requisite chill to the sound, but songs such as It Will Find You, Glory Verse and When You Leave tend to drag on a bit and leave you a little cold. www.mapsmu
