Unfinished business

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - Listings - Michael Dervan

Peter Tuite (left), one of the most individual of Irish pianists, makes his first subscription concert appearance with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. He will play early Beethoven, the First Piano Concerto, in a programme that then moves on to concentrate on unfinished works from late in their composers’ careers - the Adagio from Mahler’s Tenth Symphony, and what can safely be said to be the most famous incomplete symphony of all: Schubert’s Unfinished. Full, four-movement performing versions of both works have been made over the years by various hands. But Gerhard Markson is keeping things simple, and will conduct only what the composers themselves completed.
