Tas­min Lit­tle (above) is the fid­dler of the mo­ment when it comes to the El­gar Vi­o­lin Con­certo. The work fea­tures in the sched­ules of both the Ul­ster Orches­tra and the RTÉ Na­tional Sym­phony Orches­tra in pro­grammes mark­ing the 150th an­niver­sary of El­gar’s birth. And Lit­tle is the soloist on both oc­ca­sions. She can be heard tonight in Belfast, and on Septem­ber 28th in Dublin. The pro­gram­mers for the two orches­tras have also thought alike in choos­ing works to fol­low the El­gar, Si­belius’s Third Sym­phony in Belfast, and his First in Dublin. Ver­non Han­d­ley, a dis­tin­guished El­gar­ian and for­mer prin­ci­pal con­duc­tor of the Ul­ster Orches­tra, is this week’s con­duc­tor. Joseph Wolfe, son of a dis­tin­guished Si­belian, Colin Davis, con­ducts in Septem­ber.
