LEGEND Galway City Museum, Spanish Arch Until May 28 091-536546

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - Listings - AIDAN DUNNE

Galway City Museum is currently hosting a project by artist-in-residence Louise Manifold. She was asked to work with the Daly Collection, “an eclectic collection” of art on loan to Galway City Council from the Daly family of Oranmore. She proceeded to select 11 works from a total of 29, and, echoing the original gesture of the family, passed on the selected works to three people: “a psychic, an historian and a storyteller”. Legend, which arose from this process, is a video installation of the responses of each recipient to the works in their care. Psychic Patrick Pugh tunes in to “energy of each picture”, detailing past ownerships; historian and conservator Leir Helguera assesses works in terms of conventional values, aesthetic and economic; and storyteller Eddie Lenihan offers his own take on the imagery of several paintings with reference to Irish myth. Intriguing.
