This Fishamble production of Sebastian Barry’s new play is billed as a world premiere, but it has already been performed in London’s Tricycle Theatre, a fringe venue associated with Irish plays, in recent weeks, and the English critics have bestowed a sufficiency of accolades on it. Barry writes in a truly creative style, lucid and poetic, that penetrates deep into his people and themes. This is a two-hander of interwoven monologues about a marriage gone tragically wrong, soaking up the zeitgeist of Dublin and its aboriginal inhabitants. Festival diaries should certainly give it serious priority.
