TickeT gig of The week

Damien Rice sure surrounds himself with some talented people. First Lisa Hannigan, now Vyvienne Long. After a shy start, the only slightly eccentric cellist led her sextext through an an impressive – if lengthy – show in Dublin’s Village venue on Tuesday night. Taking cues from The Divine Comedy, Bat For Lashes, Tori Amos and daytime radio, Long treated the audience to her tracks Freakscene and They’re Not Waving, and a couple of interesting covers. The star-in-waiting finished on a high, standing and turning the mic on the all-seated crowd for Happy Thoughts Will Save Me. If Tim Burton dreamt up a pop star, she’d sound like this.
