When Mullova met Labeque
VIKTORIA MULLOVA (VIOLIN), KATIA LABÈQUE (PIANO) NCH, Dublin Thurs 8pm 115-155 01-4170000
Russian violinist Viktoria Mullova (above, left) has a track record of appearing at the National Concert Hall in classy company. Her previous recitals there were with the likes of Maria João Pires and Piotr Anderszewski. She’s back this week, this time in partnership with the mercurial Katia Labèque (above, right) one half of the Labèque sisters piano duo. The programme is an eclectic one, including works by three 20th-century masters (Stravinsky’s Suite italienne, Bartók’s Hungarian Folk Tunes and Ravel’s Violin Sonata), with the Fantasy in C by Schubert, a late work which, after years of neglect, is being taken up by an increasing number of violinists.
