DUBLIN BOOK FESTIVAL City Hall, Dame St, Dublin Fri-Sun www.dublinbookfestival. com

Organised by Clé, the Irish Book Publishers’ Association, this festival is designed to focus attention on Irish publishers and their wares. The theme this year is “Debuts and New Beginnings”, and there will be contributions from both new and established authors. Some of the more established guests are Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Dermot Bolger, John Montague, Cathy Kelly and Margaret Mac Curtain – and that’s just a smattering, 120 authors and poets are scheduled to attend. There will be readings by well-known Irish children’s authors, a number of “public conversations” or interviews with, among others, Joseph O’Connor, Anthony Cronin and Pauline Bewick, and readings by emerging writers. Some interesting discussions are scheduled – the topics will include “Cute Hoors & Brown Envelopes” and “The GAA & the 21st Century”, in addition, naturally enough, to “Irish Publishing”.

Lots of launches, celebrations and Irish language events, too.
