LIFE IS A DREAM Project Upstairs, Dublin Previews Mar 27-29 Opens Mar 31-Apr 19 8pm 125-112 01-881691 The Rough Magic Theatre Company, having recently scooped top Irish Times awards for its magnificent production last year of Schiller’s Don Carlos, now moves further back in time with Life Is a Dream by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. It remains the mostproduced play of the prolific 17th-century Spaniard, a dramatic story of truth and illusion in which the personal collides with the political.

This translation is by Professor Jo Clifford of Edinburgh University, also a writer with a huge output, notably in classic versions of works by Dickens, Lorca and Tolstoy. The play under notice, an acclaimed study of truth and illusion, was a huge success for Clifford in the Edinburgh Festival 1998 and, with a top-line cast directed by Tom Creed, promises to be a major Dublin event. can’T see ThaT? caTch This Tom Crean – Antarctic Explorer Olympia Theatre, Dublin
