A big week for jazz fans
BENNINK, MOORE & HOLSHAUSER
For those who like jazz with a sense of adventure, next week will be a bit special. Veteran Dutch drummer Han Bennink (above), whose experience embraces Rollins and Dexter Gordon in the 1960s, is a key figure in European free jazz. One of the founders of Instant Composer Pool (ICP), Amsterdam’s free jazz nexus, he was joined there in the 1980s by American clarinettist Michael Moore; both were also part of the Clusone trio with cellist Ernst Reijseger. Joined by New York accordionist Will Holshauser, they open a short Irish tour tomorrow in Belfast (Black Box, £10), on to Dublin on Sunday (JJ Smyth’s, ¤18) and finishing in Cork on Monday (Triskel Arts Centre, ¤30/¤18/¤16).
