Kelly plays a month of Tuesdays

NICK KELLY Whelan’s (Upstairs) Dublin Tues 8pm ¤16 01-4780766/ 1890-200078

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - Listings - TONY CLAYTON-LEA

We like this initiative by Nick Kelly, former lead singer/ songwriter with Irish hopefuls The Fat Lady Sings. Kelly left his former band as a result of what has been vaguely defined as a swift change of plan, but which can be just as easily described as musicindustryitis. He now balances real life with occasional, as-it-comes spurts of musical activity, of which his weekly residency at Whelan’s Upstairs during September (aka ‘A Month of Tuesdays’) is an example.

Each Tuesday highlights different elements of Kelly’s hard-boiled but soft-centred oeuvre: this coming Tuesday he will be performing new songs; on September 9th it will be a full set played on piano; September 16th is a request night (by email to nick@nick by September 11th); September 23rd is a Personal Favourites evening; and on September 30th Kelly will perform only Fat Lady Sings songs. Very good songwriter, great idea. More of this, if you don’t mind.
