A concerted Collective action

The Young Composers’ Collective, formed four years ago, has transformed itself into the Irish Composers Collective. The objectives of the new organisation are to organise concerts of its members’ music, and to provide its members with “support structures and information resources”. In keeping with the ideals of the YCC, the ICC “places a particular emphasis on the professional development of its members as composers, particularly those at the earlier stages of their careers”. In the process of change the new organisation has spawned its own performing group, Ensemble ICC, whose director is cellist Kate Ellis, with Cora Venus Lunny (viola), Daniel Bodwell (bass), Karl Rooney (saxophone), and Roger Moffatt (percussion). The group makes its debut this week at the Unitarian Church, St Stephen’s Green, in Dublin, with a programme of premieres featuring pieces by Scott McLaughlin, Brian Bolger, Dónal Adams, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Simon O’Connor, Laura Kitty, Francis Heery and Amanda Feery. And there’s a repeat of the whole programme in Galway the following night.
