More stars come out for Haiti

Al­most a month af­ter the Haitian earth­quake, the Ir­ish mu­sic com­mu­nity con­tinue to rally around and or­gan­ise fundrais­ing events for the dev­as­tated Caribbean coun­try. A Hip-Hop for Haiti gig is planned for Bal­ly­mun's Axis The­atre on Fe­bru­ary 19th, while Christy Moore and John Spil­lane will play a fundraiser on March 23rd at Dublin’s Vicar Street.

A fur­ther ben­e­fit gig will take place in Vicar Street next Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 11th, al­though its re­mit dif­fers slightly from the oth­ers. The Drop Haiti’s Debt gig will fo­cus on rais­ing aware­ness of the cam­paign to can­cel the coun­try’s crip­pling fi­nan­cial debts, but the ticket rev­enue will go to Trocaire’s post-earth­quake fund.

Head­lin­ing the gig, Cathy Davey is ex­pected to show­case ma­te­rial from her third al­bum, due in May. She’ll be joined on the night by Julie Feeney, Vil­lagers, The Chap­ters and more. Tick­ets are ¤20 and avail­able from Tick­et­mas­ter.
