Their gongs are in the right place
You’ll get no serious arguments (well not many, anyway) from Reel News as regards the winners of the Evening Standard British film awards. Andy Serkis got the best actor gong for his barnstorming turn as Ian Dury in the thrilling biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and Anne-Marie Duff won best actress for playing John Lennon’s mum (what is it with all these music flicks?) in Sam Taylor-Wood’s Nowhere Boy. Best film went to Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank and – making up for its disgraceful exclusion from even the Oscar long-list – Anvil! The Story of Anvil secured best documentary.
