HERE ARE some times

less can be more. In the case of Ju­lianna Bar­wick and her Florine mini-al­bum from last year, it seems at first lis­ten that the cup­board is truly bare.

But then those sounds hook you as Bar­wick’s ethe­real loops, choir-like hums and at­mo­spheric sound­scapes com­bine to cre­ate a dream-like sort of am­bi­ent glue.

Along the way, the mu­sic created by the Louisiana-born, Brook­lyn-based pro­ducer’s voice, pi­ano and synths have gath­ered com­par­isons to Björk, Kate Bush, Yoko Ono, Panda Bear and (yikes) Enya.
