HERE ARE some times
less can be more. In the case of Julianna Barwick and her Florine mini-album from last year, it seems at first listen that the cupboard is truly bare.
But then those sounds hook you as Barwick’s ethereal loops, choir-like hums and atmospheric soundscapes combine to create a dream-like sort of ambient glue.
Along the way, the music created by the Louisiana-born, Brooklyn-based producer’s voice, piano and synths have gathered comparisons to Björk, Kate Bush, Yoko Ono, Panda Bear and (yikes) Enya.
