Julianna Barwick: singing without words

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - Music -

Barwick has been perfecting that streamlined sound for a couple of years. Her previous release, Sanguine, caused vast swathes of music bloggers to swoon in unison.

“Singing without words is something I’ve always done,” says Barwick. “I just kind of make up my own language. I remember doing that when I was a kid very clearly, even singing along to the Dallas theme tune in a made-up language. It’s most comfortable for me to just sing whatever pops into my head, and concentrate most of all on the sound.”
