The TickeT gig of The week
A hushed reverence greeted James Blake at Whelan’s on Tuesday. The singer’s sparse brew of soul, electronics and dubstep is unique and challenging. And then there’s the voice: a haunting, cracked lilt that echoes Aaron Neville and Antony and – thankfully – stands up live. Unsurprisingly, he brought the roof down (some plaster fell during the sub-bassiness of Limit to Your Love).
