Not your father’s little old lady
Weirdest casting news of the year. Jennifer Garner, who is not anyone’s idea of a little old lady, is to play Miss Marple, Agatha Christie’s indomitable sleuth, in a new film for Walt Disney. This writer has always been hostile to those pedants who object to any changes from source material in film adaptations. But this really is an odd one. Being an elderly English lady was, surely, Miss Marple’s USP. You may as well turn Batman into a tobacconist.
