Their par­ents thought they were the new Bea­tles and when the four Wig­gin sis­ters from New Hamp­shire went in to record their 1969 al­bum, Phi­los­o­phy of the World they gen­uinely thought they were real con­tenders. Sadly though, they couldn’t play that much and song-writ­ing wasn’t their forte. But there’s just some­thing about their mu­sic – a sort of “out­sider art’ – that has made The Shaggs one of the big­gest mu­si­cal un­der­ground cults go­ing. A very strange af­fair.
