An independently-run Irish pop culture magazine has corralled some of the biggest hip-hop connoisseurs in American music journalism to contribute to their latest issue – a special double edition that delves into the hip-hop and rap scene of the 1990s.

The new issue of One More Robot also has an interview with Faith Evans, widow of The Notorious BIG, as well as features on Tupac Shakur, NWA and the rise of artists such as Lil Wayne. Writers involved include former columnist for The Source, André Leroy Davis.

One More Robot editor Dean Van Nguyen, a Dubliner who himself writes about hip-hop for several Us-based publications and websites, including Popmatters, founded the magazine in 2009.

“I wanted to make a magazine that analysed music, film and media a little more than your average band interviews and blog posts,” he said. “Those first couple of issues were amateur hour, but I think the ethos we laid down then still dictates the magazine’s content today.”

The 1990s Hip-hop edition is available from several outlets in Dublin, as well as by mail order worldwide.
