Say hello to sum­mer fes­ti­vals

It may only be March, but the sum­mer fes­ti­val cal­en­dar is al­ready fill­ing up. This week, an­other event north of the bor­der was an­nounced for the June Bank Hol­i­day week­end. The un­savouri­lyti­tled Pig­stock will run in Killinchy, Co Down from June 1st to 3rd, and will fea­ture a host of Ir­ish acts in­clud­ing Square­head, Mmoths, RSAG, La Faro, Not Squares, and Mojo Fury.

The fes­ti­val be­gan as a birth­day party in 2008, with 200 peo­ple squashed into a mar­quee, but more than 1,500 peo­ple at­tended last year.

The May Bank Hol­i­day week­end is also be­com­ing a busy one for mu­sic fans. Apart from Kilkenny’s Roots fes­ti­val, Dublin’s Iveagh Gar­dens will host the in­au­gu­ral Sum­mer Ses­sions.

The three-day event will fea­ture sets by Ra­zorlight, The Hu­man League, The Stran­glers, The Un­der­tones, Sharon Shan­non, Stereo MCS and Ocean Colour Scene.

The Beat­yard Week­ender will also take place in Dublin from May 3rd to 6th at the Twisted Pep­per and The Bernard Shaw. Matthew Dear, Benga and Kerri Chan­dler, along with other com­edy and mu­sic acts are al­ready con­firmed. body­ton­ic­mu­sic.com
