Com­mu­nity of In­de­pen­dents, the project launched by Dublin City TV and First Mu­sic Con­tact last year to doc­u­ment Ire­land’s bur­geon­ing in­de­pen­dent mu­sic scene, is launch­ing its first doc­u­men­tary with a gig next week­end. A Joy­ful Slog, which was filmed last year and fea­tures in­ter­views with bands such as And So I Watch You From Afar, Ade­bisi Shank and The Jimmy Cake, de­tails the de­vel­op­ment of the DIY mu­sic scene around Ire­land. It will re­ceive its public pre­miere at the But­ton Fac­tory at 6pm on Sun­day, May 6th, and the screen­ing will be fol­lowed by a free gig fea­tur­ing The Jimmy Cake, Crayon­smith, No Spill Blood, Septem­ber Girls, Costello fea­tur­ing GI and Wil­liam Lee, and Nibiru. The six per­for­mances on the night will be also shot for the sec­ond sea­son of the vol­un­teer-based se­ries, which will be broad­cast on DCTV in late May.
