Mys­tery still sur­rounds Tony Scott’s tragic sui­cide on Au­gust 19th. The di­rec­tor’s fam­ily have, how­ever, made moves to en­sure that some good comes out of his early death. A schol­ar­ship has been es­tab­lished at the Amer­i­can Film In­sti­tute to hon­our Tony’s life and work.

“The fam­ily ask that in lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions be made to the fund to help, en­cour­age and en­gage fu­ture gen­er­a­tions of film-mak­ers,” said a state­ment in the Hol­ly­wood Re­porter.

It is now un­der­stood that Scott left a num­ber of sui­cide notes for var­i­ous friends, as­so­ci­ates and fam­ily mem­bers. The con­tents have not been re­vealed in de­tail. But a spokesman from the Los Angeles coro­ner’s of­fice has con­firmed that there was no men­tion of health is­sues in the notes.
