Fes­ti­val fare for the north west

Two film fes­ti­vals with strong mu­si­cal un­der­cur­rents will take place in Gal­way and Sligo in the com­ing weeks. The North­west Film and Mu­sic Fest runs at Sligo’s Model The­atre from Novem­ber 14th-25th. High­lights for mu­sic fans in­clude Iarla Ó Lionáird and 3ep­kano’s live score for a screening of 1920 silent film Der Golem; mu­si­cian and film­maker Nick Kelly’s new mul­ti­me­dia show See: Hear, and a gig by The Un­der­tones which will fol­low a screening of Good Vi­bra­tions, the new doc­u­men­tary about “The God­fa­ther of Belfast Punk”, Terri Hoo­ley. the­model.ie/mu­sic

Mean­while, the first What If, Why Not? fes­ti­val will take place in Gal­way on Novem­ber 23rd and 24th. Pre­dom­i­nantly a film fes­ti­val that will screen ad­ven­ture sports doc­u­men­taries, there will also be live mu­sic by in­de­pen­dent bands and artists in­clud­ing Benny Smiles, Au­ton­o­mous I, So­cial Wel­fare and Ni­cholas Ti­mothy. The fes­ti­val has also en­listed a num­ber of Ir­ish acts to make their songs avail­able for film­mak­ers to use in their projects free of charge, via what­ifwhynot­fes­ti­val.com.
