ROSIE FLORES

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - MUSICREVIEWS - JOE BREEN

Working Girl’s Guitar Bloodshot Records ★★★ “I don’t drink as much tequila as when I was in my 30s and 40s. I’m healthy as a horse and I’m taking care of myself.” Rosie Flores seems to have been around forever, but the seasoned rockabilly singer/ guitarist is only 62 – a youngster compared to the Dylans and Cohens, and sounding a match for many half her age. On this spirited and entertaining trawl through her influences, Flores breaks a glass ceiling of her own when she plays all the guitar parts for the first time. This means everything from echoladen surf guitar to blistering rock’n’roll, from muscular blues to a jazzy reworking of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The way Flores manhandles her guitar on Too Much leaves little doubt about how she enjoys herself. Download: Surf Demon #5, Too Much
