Spot of bubbly for Douglas & Damon

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - NEWS -

To the Cap d’Antibes Beach Hotel for conversations with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas about their roles in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace flick Behind the Candelabra. We couldn’t find anybody else to volunteer for the trip to a cabin situated between the bay and the world’s most posh seaside hotel. So Reel News was forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Now, here’s something that has never happened before. Mr Damon swept into the holding area and demanded that the assembled journalists all join him in a glass of wine. Stewards in white coats were summoned. Sparkling beverages were dispensed. “Oh it’s all on HBO,” he joked as we toasted one another. But still . . . Decent bloke. Michael Douglas stands a fine chance of taking home the best actor prize for his performance as the flamboyant pianist. The Jury will be aware that, as Behind the Candelabra is made for TV, he will ineligible for Oscars.
