Man from UNCLE still on hold

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - NEWS -

Can we now refer to Guy Ritchie’s proposed The Man from UNCLE as a “troubled production”? It looks that way. Back in the 12th century, Steven Soderbergh planned a version of the 1960s series starring George Clooney. Other actors in the frame to play Napoleon Solo – the role created by Robert Vaughn – include Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling.

Somewhere along the way, Ritchie took over and Tom Cruise was placed in the hot seat. Now Cruise has decided he is too busy with the fifth Mission: Impossible film. I suppose there’s only so many 1960s reinventions he can accommodate in the same week. Armie Hammer is still scheduled to play sidekick Illya Kuryakin. For now.
